Antiques Roadshow

What a great time my friend Claudette and I had going to PBS's Antique Roadshow!! There was alot of standing in lines (in total we were probably there about 4 hours) but it was so much fun to see what other people were bringing to be appraised. Each person could bring 2 items. Some had their treasures so wrapped up you could only guess what it was - we thought one woman had a bunch of subway grinders wrapped up in her plastic boxes LOL!!! It seemed like there was alot of furniture, especially rocking chairs and it also seemed heavy in the paintings department. I was jewelry and posters & prints and Claudette was jewelry and decorative art. Luckily we were not chosen to be on tv although we were both having good hair days :) but while waiting in the jewelry line we did see a woman that had been asked to be taped and they covered up her item and she told her husband that she was told not to speak about this until it was taped - top secret stuff, we were tempted to go over and test her to see if we could break her!!!!

On the way out we saw one of the Keno twins and quickly grabbed an autograph from him. Hmmm, he signed like a doctor so we are not sure which one he was but I think it was Leigh. He was very personable and a good sport.
It was so much fun and I'm glad we went together cuz we laughed and laughed especially when we got on the wrong elevator and then in the parking garage it seemed like we were never going to get out.

Jo Bro Mania !!!!!!!
OMG!!! My friend Joanne is INSANE!!! Her daughter is a huge Jonas Brothers fan and they have seen them several times in concert, even one just a couple of weeks ago. She sent me a text yesterday that directly after work they were driving to New Haven and taking the train into NYC to go to Bryant Park and wait for the free Jo Bro concert on Good Morning America this morning!!! Got another text around 11 pm last night when they finally got to the park, easily about 1,000 people already there. Got another text 5:30 this morn-they stayed up all night and now the crowd is of course quite larger-plus it rained during the night -yuk!! Has anyone flipped on GMA this morning?? They say the crowd is 10,000 and some people have been there since Tuesday. I think I'm glad my teenagers are way past the Jonas Brothers! I don't know, although I once drove from Indianapolis to Pontiac Michigan with people I really did not know and then waited outside the Pontiac Silverdome (and it was December) to get into a Rolling Stones Concert-festival seating was still allowed at that time and we did get front row!! I am not sure that at this stage I would do something like this to see Mick Jagger. Hmmm.. :)

Got Ducks??
Meet Donald, Donald, Donald, Donald and Donald!! They showed up about 3 weeks ago, we believe they are domestic ducks that someone dumped off. They are very friendly and will let you pet them and pick them up. However 5 ducks means lots of you know what in the swimming area so ........a solution is trying to be found. Someone had called animal control and supposedly they were going to come and shoot them (although I don't really think they would have done that) so all the kids got up in arms about this and transported the ducks over to one of the islands but since people have been feeding them they swam their way right back to the boat ramp.

Rain Rain Go Away
On the news tonight they commented that today was our 7th straight day of severe storms - no kidding -and the pattern is going to be the same for the next 7. Today alone 3 seperate thunderstorms came through. Of course I had hung out bath and beach towels today on the line, was too cheap to fully dry them at the laundromat. The weatherman this morning said the chance was low for storms so ........I hung them out and ran errands - it was sunny when I left. Well when I got home they were not longer just damp, they were dripping. By the time I had my groceries put away and was ready to deal with the wet towels the second storm blew through so I just left them out there - something tells me I will be hauling them back to the laundromat tomorrow! It would just be nice to enjoy one dry day - here in the woods everything stays so wet, even the mushrooms in the yard are sporting mold!!

Bluff Point
Yesterday I chaperoned a field trip to Bluff Point State Park. Too bad the weather was cold, windy and drizzly :( It was a science research trip so actually it was interesting. My group was in charge of "vegetation" we had to take quadrant measurements of the different types of beach vegetation. Basically there was lots of dune grass, wild beach roses and beach peas. Other groups were in charge of weather observations, animals, and sediment. One of the science teachers released some type of salt compound that was safe but turned green when put in the water - they were able to see it "travel" down the beach due to the wind and currents. The best part was that since there wasn't enough room on the buses I had to drive all the equipment down and my friend Lisa who is a para on that team got to go with me. Darn, hated to miss out on an hour long bus ride with noisy 8th graders - ha ha. On our way home Lisa and I stopped at Dairy Queen for cotton candy blizzards - yum yum :)

More Roses

Can you smell the roses?
I snapped these pictures this morning of our one rose bush. I bought it about 10 years ago at the Christmas Tree Shop for $2.99 mainly because we had just painted the girls' room yellow. We never do a thing to it but occasionally cut it back and it always blooms beautifully!! My neighbor across the street can never get over it because he buys his roses at a local nursery, constantly attends to them, and never has good luck and replaces at least 2 every year!!

I DON'T LIKE SNAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Earlier today I attempted to start cleaning out our rock garden at the other house. I have been putting it off for weeks because I really do not like bugs, snakes, spiders etc and I am always afraid they are just waiting for me, especially in some of the really large rocks along the stairway. Initially I just did a little planting of geraniums in the big planter that is smack dab in the middle of all the packesandra (sp??) and was heading back out after a break to start raking all the dead leaves and remove the stray ferns when I heard something, then saw something slither right next to the slate steps and head straight into the rock garden!! Hmmm, not the usual garter snake-different markings. My daughter quick snapped these shots and later, thanks to the internet!!, we were able to identify it as a milk snake. This time of year they are mating, laying eggs so thats probably why it was hanging around. It was a wildlife kind of weekend, earlier in the day we spied 2 canadien geese with 3 adorable babies at the end of our driveway crossing the road-going through the woods from the small pond to the big one, and yesterday I saw a wild turkey crossing the road! I still don't like snakes though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally caved and allowed my daughters to set up Facebook accounts. Now that I see it I wish we had something like that when I was a teenager-I know my friends and I would have been all over that!! They have even re-connected with some friends from elementary school and are having a blast on the site. I think I like Facebook much better than Myspace-seems a little safer too.

Each ticket holder can bring 2 items to be appraised. A friend from work is going with me and we are both busy deciding what goodies to bring!!!! I think it will be so much fun just seeing what everyone else is bringing!!

Happy Birthday Bobby Orr !

Hard to believe but today Bobby Orr turned 60!!!!!! For those of you who do not know he was one of the Boston Bruins, #4, back in the 1960's and 70's. Growing up in the Boston area I lived and breathed hockey and he was my childhood sports hero. Recently in a sports memorabilia store I saw a framed autograhed pic of "The Boys of Boston" with Bobby, Larry Bird, and Ted Williams. It was probably taken late 80's/early 90's. Out of my price range but what a picture. Check out his web site www.bobbyorr.com

Next Best Thing
Whats the next best thing to a snow day? A 90 minute delayed opening due to winter weather!!!!! It was great to sleep in a little later, have a nice relaxing breakfast, etc before heading out, great way to start a Friday - maybe every Friday should have a 90 minute delay. :)

Snow Day!!!!!!
Well, it wasn't the 8-14 inches they were predicting but it was enough for NO SCHOOL!!!!!!! We had kinda figured yesterday that there would not be school today so we all stayed up late and totally were not prepared for school/work. I had even brought home a craft project to prepare that we were going to do today in class but I totally forgot about it until one of the other teachers at school emailed me last night that she was being daring and not getting her project ready!!! LOL:) Nothing like the thrill of getting up, looking outside at the snow, flipping on the tv and waiting until you finally see your school listed as closed! Growing up in Massachusetts we didn't have to flip on the tv, we just had to listen at 7:00 am to see if the fire horn blew. If so that mean't school was cancelled. Actually, 30+ years later thats still how they do it there!

It's a New Year!!!!!
Happy New Year!!! It seems like the holidays were really a long time ago, not just a few weeks. But people, its time to take the outdoor Christmas decorations down!!!!!!!! The weather has been great all week so really there is no excuse!! Now if only the town was able to finish the fall leaf pickup......At least in December we had lots of snow so you couldn't see the leaves but now that it has all melted the curbs all look gross with the piles of leaves on them.
